This past weekend, Jonathan and I hopped on the megabus at 1 am Saturday morning to arrive in Chicago at 6:45 am. We then spent the entire day walking around, exploring the city and enjoying the music festival from 11am to 11 pm. We then hopped back on the megabus at midnight, to arrive back in St. Louis Sunday morning in time to get a couple zzz's and then serve communion. It was crazy.
We got tickets way back in february, and just didn't want to miss the opportunity to see so many great artists. Especially when we live so close to Chicago!
We enjoyed the tallest man on earth. He was great live. and incredibly little.
And Franz Ferdinand.
Bloc Party. and of course the chili peppers!!!! (no photos, too dark)
There were so many other greats groups! One of which we were unable to see (super sad face!) The Alabama Shakes. Just as they were about the play, the entire park was evacuated because a storm was on its way!! We couldn't believe it. So yes, 300,000+ people had to exit the park and seek shelter. We went to the Art Museum close by to wait out the storm (which was really intense and kinda scary) We were afraid they would cancel the rest of the festival but luckily the rain/winds passed and after shouting "let-us-in!" over and over, they did exactly that. Phew.
So the Alabama Shakes were either moved to Sunday or played on a different stage that we missed, so we were pretty bummed. but we got to see everyone else we went for!
This was the storm aftermath. Mud everywhere!! So naturally, everyone played in it and was covered from head to toe. (we declined that experience seeing as how we had a bus to catch and not a hotel room)
We were *exhausted* to say the least and our legs and feet felt like giant bruises by the end of the night, but luckily we slept well on the bus back home. (thanks to egg mcmuffins in our belly at 3 am when we had our pit stop)
It was a fun experience and I will never ever forget what it looks like to see and be apart of an ocean of people all singing in unison "how long how long will I slide. seperate my si-de, I don't...I don't believe it's bad, slittin my throat, it's all I ever...."
